Preflight Software, FREE, to preflight
your graphics in a commercial printing job.

Our free preflight application, FreeFlight™, released in early November 2006 is a free tool for the printing and publishing community. FreeFlight™ is designed to be a very efficient graphics file check. FreeFlight™ is fast, very easy to use, and best of all, FreeFlight™ is a free download for you and your customers.

Most graphic designers and desktop publishers can't afford the expensive tools like Markzware FlightCheck™, a great application, costing as much as $400 ea. This leaves them processing files to PDF with no way to verify color space, font usage and file formats.

In 2003 we began developing our own preflight software. FreeFlight™ was hatched and we've decided to make it available for free to the graphic arts trade. FreeFlight™ is a new universal application that is very lean in design, easy to use and understand.

How is this FreeFlight Supported?
FreeFlight™ is a community tool. Like our other software, we believe in heavy user to user support through our prepressforum.com. So, we ask that if you use FreeFlight™, please assist and contribute in the prepress forums helping others and sharing any problems and solutions that you may run into. Make it easy for the next guy who has same problem or question. There's a community of users on our prepress and graphic design forums that post questions and answers all the time. So, join the forum, it's free and is a very valuable resource to printing and publishing professionals worldwide.

How To Get Free Preflight Software, Requirements?
FreeFlight™ is a a free software offering, free to active members of prepressforum.com. To download our free software, all you do is Join, then participate. You will be required to have atleast one post or reply message. This can be a simple introduction post introducing yourself and/or your company to the group. Or, think of a prepress or printing problem that you have, see what other members have to say about it. After that you will be able to download from our Free Prepress software forum.

How Does FreeFlight™ Work, How Do I Use It
FreeFlight(TM) is designed to alert on most common graphics support file problems. So, as a stand alone universal (NATIVE ON INTEL MAC) application, FreeFlight™ is a really simple drag-n-drop preflight check for support files that you would use, placed INTO QuarkXpress and Adobe InDesign.

Our free preflight software will check your support graphics, Tiff, EPS, PDF, etc and make sure that what is placed into QuarkXpress™ or Adobe InDesign™ are appropriate for commercial prepress production. So, you can drag a single file, or a whole job folder onto it and it will quickly scan all the support files for integrity. And, it's very, very fast. Anyone can use it with virtually any workflow, FREE.

How Does FreeFlight™ Affect Our PDF-X-Robot™ Workflow
In our live production test environment we are using the latest release of PDF-X-Robot™ as we develop it. This is a very big change in that we haven't used Markzware's FlightCheck™ in our workflow for months as we develop all this future generation of PDF automation. PDF-X-Robot™ now has it's own built in preflight capability by using a FreeFlight.xnt which is a preflight Xtension for Quark Xpress 6.5. Of course same as always, PDF-X-Robot™ has same functionality for preflight and output from BOTH Quark and InDesign. So, it also comes with FreeFlight.pln which is a FreeFlight™ Plug-In for Adobe InDesign CS2.

So, Quark Xpress and Adobe InDesign CS2 documents are preflighted as we process files with PDF-X-Robot™. Before generating any PDF, it uses the FreeFlight™ plug-in or Xtension to inspect the current document and environment (FONTS), then quickly calls the FreeFlight™ universal in the background to quickly check placed graphics to be sure they are OK. PDF-X-Robot then merges these results into a common report and GO/No-GO response and reporting. Markzware's FlightCheck™ is no longer required as it is replaced by the Xtension, Plug-In, and the FreeFlight™ stand alone freeware application. Preflight now goes about 400% faster than when using Markzware's FlightCheck™. PDF-X-Robot is now able to process every document with a quick preflight every time automatically much faster than it has before.

After using Markzware's Flightcheck™ for our automated preflight for so many years now, this is a huge improvement in productivity for PDF-X-Robot™ users. It also allows us to provide help to thousands of graphic designers and desktop publishers by releasing this tool for free.
